I did some research this past week after posting about my great grand uncle Charles Skipper you can read the original blog post here https://ellajaneanne.home.blog/2019/08/06/the-life-of-charles-edgar-skipper/ . If you want to know the full story read the original blog post of The life of Charles Skipper before reading the update.
I had several questions about what happened to the mother and daughter who were attacked by Charles Skipper. I was not sure how I was going to find out what happened to them. I tried a search on ancestry with the little information I had on them and nothing came up. I also googled “Elisabeth Mitchell, Effingham Illinois” to see if anything would come up, nothing did. Then I decided to google Charles Skipper to see what I could come up with and I found the mother and daughter.
Sadly Josephine, the daughter died just 3 months after the attack on 1 August 1934. This is not a story that ends well for any of the individuals involved. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/53855502/josephine-crowther
The mother died just 4 months after the attack. The news article states the attack happened one year ago but it did happen on 8 May 1934. This is sadly what I learned from find a grave https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/36982163/elizabeth-jane-mitchell
I wish I knew why Charles attacked this family. I wish I had answers as to what would have made Charles do such a terrible act in the middle of the night to a family who he had worked and boarded with for many years. We may never know why this happened, I am glad to know the outcome of the story no matter how tragic.
