Research Objective: To determine if Anna Marie Elisabeth Gossmann and Marie Catherina Gossmann are the same person.

Anna Marie Elisabeth Gossmann was the first daughter born to Jost Heinrich Gossmann and Catherina Charlotte Beyer and was born on 15 July 1860 in Wehlheiden, Kassel, Hesse, Germay. Anna Marie Elisabeth Gossmann and Maria Catherina Gossmann are likely the same person because they have the same parents and birth date.
Baptism Record: A baptism was recorded for Anna Marie Elisabeth Gossmann who was born on 15 July 1860 and baptized on 4 August 1860 in Wehlheiden, Kassel, Hesse, Germany. Her father was Jost Heinrich Gossmann and her mother was Catehrina Charlotte Beyer.

The same information was also recorded in a church burial record for Marie Katherine Koch, maiden name Gossmann, she was born on 15 July 1860 in Wehlheiden, Kassel, Hesse, Germany, and married Joseph Koch.
Additional Searches: A search of Wehlheiden, Kassel, Hesse, Germany baptism records did not locate any other girl born or baptized in 1860 with the name of Marie Catherine and no other baptism was located for any other Gossmann family that matches the birth date or parents around the time that Marie would have been born. Wehlheiden in 1866 had around 2,200 people living there and in a search of baptism records from 1858-1862, there was no other baptism located for Marie Catherine Gossmann.
Conclusion: The information in all found records agrees that Marie Catherine Gossmann was born on 15 July 1860 in Wehlheiden, Kassel, Hesse, Germany. Her baptism and marriage record provided her parents’ names as Jost Heinrich Gossmann and Katherina Charlotte Beyer and that she married Joseph Koch. Her death and burial records all match her spouse and birth date with the location. Anna Marie Elisabeth Gossmann is the same person as Marie Catherina Gossmann and her name was changed after her birth.

Great post. Have you investigated naming patterns to account for the 2 different names? Or the use of a “call name?”

Yes I have looked at the naming patterns and this family seems to name their children after who they choose as their god parents. Which in this case was the same as her name in her baptism. I am assuming since Marie is in both of the brakes that her call name was Marie.
